imPro School 2nd birthday

Dear people,

I don’t tend to go on about the Music Tech school I founded 2 years ago but let’s face it: I did. Exactly two years ago actually. imPro, Budapest School of Music Technology. The first proper courses in electronic music production in Hungary.

When I was finishing my Music Tech Specialist Course at the University of West London I had the sneaky thought that a school with myself and Fine Cut Bodies and Modul a.k.a. Mango and more would be fucking ace. Wouldn’t it.

In the past two years we’ve had 150 students and we are truly blown away by the talents we have found. We’ve taught a lot, we’ve learnt a lot, we’ve had one or three pints, but most importantly we’ve made good friends. May sound banale but that’s what keeps us going the most. Yup, seeing the guys making friends at our courses is great.

Anyway, as a kinda birthday pressie we’re launching a monthly club night called Skillshot that aims to introduce new talents we’ve come across at our courses. If you’re in town, make sure to drop by and say hi at Fabrik tomorrow, you’ll find Fine Cut Bodies, iamyank, myself and more crazy characters behind the decks.

Also check out this interview about the school, about glitch-hop, and about quite a lot more on Lángoló Gitárok, a popular Hungarian music blog. Yes it is in Hungarian but in the age of Google Translate all you guys who don’t speak the lingo (not everyone speaks Hungarian apparently) may still be able to read it. Hope to see some of you tomoz.

Goosebumpz remix preview

Hello folks,

Just wanted to share this preview with you all, a sneak peek of the remix I’ve done to ‘Texas Teeth’ by Goosebumpz, coming soon on the ever growing Adapted Records. To make sure it’s as massive a treat as it gets, the guys at Adapted have thrown in Mr. Bill, Circuit Bent, Meat Axe, and quite a few more really talented cats so it’s definitely one to catch in April! I’m SOOO keen for it to drop, can’t wait to show you all the full version!! Till then, check out the taster and show some love if you fancy.

Week round-up

Dear guys,

I’m happy to announce that a bunch of my stuff have dropped this week, here’s what exactly:

Cheese & Biscuits

I’ve told about this earlier, this massive compilation of 24 tracks is a stormer, I’ve got a track on there as well, all completely FREE, so click on the image to the left and snatch it up if you haven’t yet!

Stinger / Loco Boogie on Beatport

After running exclusively on Addictech for a couple weeks and currently at number 6 in the top selling releases of the year, it’s finally landed on Beatport too. Guess what, Loco Boogie is already at 77 on the Glitch Hop chart. Yippiiee!

Forest Mallet / Bugbuzz + remixes out on Empathy Recordings

The guys at Empathy really went to town with this one and knocked up a simply amazing package with remixes by Mr. Bill, Goosebumpz, and Spoonhead. Available in all good online shops.

Zagar – Never The Same (AMB remix)

A remix I made for this wicked Hungarian act Zagar, more on the spaced out dubstep side, also dropped this Friday.

New track signed to Empathy Recordings

Opiuo, Goosebumpz, Spoonhead, Buck Rogers, Mouldy Soul, K+Lab, Alias, Karl Sav & Blatwax are locked in for remixes, this one is gonna be HUGE – coming soon! Here’s a little taster to the original.

As an outro, I had an amazing gig on Friday, kicked off with this tune above, blew some heads off! Managed to squeeze in a proper glitch-hop set on a techno night right in between a tech house and a techno set in a way that the crowd went crazy. And not in a bad way. Been a busy week, thanks guys for all your support!

Cheese & Biscuits

Hello boys and gals,

Just finished the mastering of this monster of a release, and thought to give you all a shout that if you haven’t yet, get your arse over to Adapted Records and to snatch the entire compilation for FREE.

Really amazing and quality stuff by some of the most talented producers from all around.

I’ve also got a tune sitting on there, one I did a coupla months ago after a heavy night out, so careful: it’s got a bit of a hangover vibe to it.

Here’s a little info by the guys at Adapted:

“Welcome to 2012, another year that will test the innovation of electronic music. Cheese & Biscuits is a testament to exactly that, a collection of some of the best Glitch/Breaks/Bass/IDM and downright unclassifiable music from Australia and around the globe. This release reflects the broad and upward direction Adapted Records has recently chosen to take; with the melodic funk of Griff, the abstract mastery of Mr. Bill, the melted perfection of Circuit Bent, the brutal raw energy of Meat Axe and the talents of many more all playing a part in this diverse release which is both thought and body provoking. If you think these are big claims then by all means go ahead and test them, because this 24-track release is also a free one :-)

Forest Mallet / Bug Buzz + Remixes

I’m really excited about this one, my debut release on Empathy Recordings with four remixes by three amazing and super talented guys GoosebumpzMr. Bill, and Spoonhead.

Catch the release in all good online stores 17 February, till then, check out the preview at the bottom of the page and find out what the guys at Empathy say:

“2011 saw Empathy firmly establish itself on the worldwide electronic music map. In celebration of our best year ever we have decided to bring you something a little bit special. We’ve set out to find an artist who has something unique we’ve never seen before – Something melodic, yet dissonant – fresh, yet ripe. After searching the world’s airwaves – our antennae strength on full – we picked up the crisp clear signal from Hungarian producer AMB.

The resulting collaboration comprises of ‘Forest Mallet’ and ‘Bug Buzz’. We have no doubt both of these tunes will grab your attention. With subtle melodies, smooth meandering bass lines, crisp drum production and all manner of glitched out tweakisms, this is one we know you’re going to love.

No Empathy release is complete without remixes, so with AMB’s blessing we’ve added three new Empathy signings to the roster for this special  release.

Introducing Spoonhead:
This pointed hoodie-wearing individual has established himself as one of Australasia’s most exciting new live acts. Spoonhead’s mouldable, tweakable live set makes for loads of fun on the dance floor and allows plenty of room for experimentation. The Spoonhead experience sends you awash on the dance floor with liquidy surf. Futuristic synths soar over ancient tribal rhythms while richly layered textures infuse with the sounds of his homeland Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Spoonhead has remixed both AMB originals for EMPD027 and it’s clear he has amazed us all. While retaining the original vibe of both tracks, he has taken things to mid-tempo techno infused bass romp. With no shortage of squelches and glitches, we know you guys will lap this guy up. Expect some top-notch releases from this guy in future.

Melbourne based Goosebumpz has become a driving force within the Australian electronic music scene. As a result, he has become a regular fixture at outdoor dance parties, festivals and club gigs  nationwide. Capitalizing on the bass music movement Down Under, Goosebumpz is renowned for his extremely tight production, attention to detail and psy influenced sound design. His mid-tempo remix of ‘Bug Buzz’ has a laid back approach – A spacious, soulful take on the original which evolves towards a drop that will have you up and moving.

Sydney based producer Mr. Bill is both prolific and talented. His music excites both the ear and the brain by exploring unusual production methods and theory. His music has cause enough of a buzz  over the past year that it seemed inevitable that Empathy would come knocking with an invite to become part of our vision. His remix of Bug Buzz is dubstep… but not as you know it. We encourage you to keep an eye on Mr. Bill… We’re sure you’ll be as impressed as we are…

Stinger // Loco Boogie coming next week

Hello peeps,

Next week sees my debut on Simplify Recordings with two of my tracks ‘Stinger’ and ‘Loco Boogie’. I’ve created a Soundcloud set for it so you can have a full length check on them. If you get the boogie in your butt, just head over to here on Addictech for your pre-order.

Have fun.

This Year It Begins

I started producing tunes roughly 14 years ago and soon noticed that downtempo tracks to me came easier than midtempo dancefloor ones. In fact, that challenge was what urged me to get into the latter. I found it exciting, something like a code to crack, to make tracks that draw people to the floor rather than go grab a drink at the bar.

So I produced breakbeat for 7 years, had many releases on various labels. Then at one point I felt that the genre had become less experimenting, less fun, and I found myself going through current breakbeat records without wanting to own/ play/ buy/ or just listen to any of them.

At that time I was finding the house music scene more interesting, entertaining and most of all, not lacking in humour, which breakbeat clearly was at that time. And so I produced house music for three years and was lucky to have releases on great labels.

Then following my idea to launch Hungary’s first electronic music education, imPro Budapest School of Music Technology was born. Not only has it brought a lot of additional value to my life but it also allowed me to take a year break in music production and contemplate creating music in general without having to do it on a daily basis.

That’s how I realised that I’d done what I initially wanted, I cracked the code, I can make music that gets people on the floor. So it was about time I had more fun and got into downtempo. That was early 2011.

Since then I’ve made 10 tracks, and to my amazement, I almost instantly found all of them snatched up by some of the greatest labels of the genre.

And so this year is when all those tunes are seeing a release and my existence in glitch-hop/ electronica/ AMBstep begins.

And that’s just really exciting. Finally I’m where I always thought I should get eventually and what’s even better, people seem to be into it.

Probably that’s the best that can happen ever.

And it all wouldn’t have been possible without your support.

So thanks a million everyone for making that happen, I invite you all to have a killer year and a lot of fun in 2012!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to wish you a really great new year and thank you all for your continued support in 2011.

We’ve got a strong year ahead with a bunch of releases in January/ February on Simplify, Adapted, Empathy, Muti Music, and Chi of course. And more to follow.

Here’s a little vibe for tonight, fresh and tasty, coming on the mighty Adapted Records in a tick.

Stay tuned peeps,

See you on the other side!
